It is often believed that natural cosmetics rely mainly on traditional recipes instead of clinical research. Based on our pharmacy experience in over 3,000 homeopathic remedies of herbal origin, our philosophy is to develop products based on primary and applied research on verified benefits and clinical efficacy.

Our goal is to develop innovative and clinically effective skincare products based on natural active ingredients; to promote natural ingredients research in relation to skin biochemistry; and to project the unique Greek flora benefits through our cooperations with local farmers, and the production of our brand-own high value organic extracts.

We have formed an independent scientific board, consisting of high profile professors and researchers in the fields of Biochemistry, Pharmacognosy, and Clinical Dermatology. Together we investigate the clinical benefits of natural ingredients in relation to skin biochemistry.
Studying the findings of current research programmes and the developments in the field of natural active ingredients, we then collectively decide the direction of our primary research in association with both Greek and international scientific institutions and universities. The aim is to explore the active molecules of natural descent, in accordance with the cell’s biochemical paths and the validation of the efficacy of our new formulations.
We develop skincare products based on two fundamental axes; our primary and applied research findings, and our values, our ongoing commitment: to project the benefits of Greek herbs; to develop skin and environmentally friendly formulations with a natural content varying between 80-99,80% ; to avoid the use of chemical substances like mineral oils, silicones, parabens and propylene glycol amongst others.

Research Projects

Following on from the introduction of Quercetin & Oak, the first natural line to outpace top-selling conventional antiageing creams, based on a NOBEL awarded discovery and the findings of primary research on Proteasome & Ageing, KORRES achieves another first with new principal research. A research proposal on the study of 3,600 natural actives, submitted by KORRES in collaboration with eight [8] research centres, has achieved the highest mark [14.5/15] by the European Community as part of the Seventh Framework EU Programme for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration Activities. The primary research proposal, one of 11 in total submitted by 106 participants, achieved the highest score after a 12-month assessment. KORRES in collaboration with eight [8] research centres will be studying the cosmetic properties of 3,600 natural actives, focusing on their antiageing, antioxidant, sun-protecting action [antiageing, anti-hyper-pigmentation & UV-protection].
The research will discover and carry to the stage of development candidates, plant derived small molecules with potential as new cosmetic agents. These compounds will derive from plants originating from major biodiversity hotspots in Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region.

Integrated technologies for the discovery and development of Cosmeceutical Agents from Plant Biodiversity

NATPROTEC is a research project that aims to discover and carry to the stage of development innovative products in the area of cosmeceuticals originating from European natural resources using emerging and environmentally friendly technologies.
KORRES in collaboration with seven[7] research centres  and industry leaders will be studying the cosmetic properties of 600 natural actives, focusing on their antiageing, antioxidant, sun-protecting action  [antiageing, anti-hyper-pigmentation & UV-protection].

Black Pine
A natural formulation incorporating two innovations: the biology of the proteasome & how this can be boosted naturally with Quercetin (KORRES innovation/ patent) and the biology of the matrix metaloproteinases (MMPs) & how these can be regulated naturally with Black Pine polyphenol, Epigallocatechin (KORRES innovation).

A natural, sustainable and more efficacious answer to the film-forming properties of non-biodegradable silicone, blowing apart the theory that without silicones hair is not protected or conditioned. Crash-tested against the market’s leading silicone-based shampoo, the KORRES formulation creates a healthy protection film similar to the silicone one though with greater efficacy and zero build-up.

Product Development

We develop skincare products based on two fundamental axes; our primary and applied research findings, and our values, our ongoing commitment: to project the benefits of Greek herbs; to develop skin and environmentally friendly formulations with a natural content varying between 80-99,80%; to avoid the use of chemical substances like mineral oils, silicones, parabens and propylene glycol amongst others. These substances are replaced with natural ingredients. The natural active ingredients that we use derive from four ingredient groups:

Plants that have evolved adaptations to grow in Greece’s unique environment / Thyme, Sage, Bay Laurel, Olive, Mastiha

Beneficial ingredients with advanced skincare properties including Yoghurt, Thyme Honey

Actives such as natural antioxidant Quercetin, with proven efficacy as per the findings of international research programmes including the primary research carried by the Korres Research & Development Lab.


Synthetic oils originating from chemically processed petroleum. When used in cosmetics, they tend to block the pores and inhibit skin functions.

A wide family of synthetic compounds, used in cosmetics for their smooth texture. In addition to carrying the disadvantages of synthetic oils, silicones are not environment friendly as they are non-biodegradable.

A group of compounds used as preservatives, which has become increasingly controversial. Overexposure to a specific paraben ‘family’ [butyl, methyl, ethyl] mainly through the Food, Pharmacy and Cosmetics industries, has been accused of irritant and/or toxic action.

The most commonly used solvent for plant extracts. Of synthetic origin, it has been linked repeatedly to various allergies.

A family of synthetic compounds used to adjust a product’s pH or viscocity. Ethanolamines have been linked to a number of allergies and various skin irritations.

Synthetic compounds mainly used as solvents and stabilizers while they can also be part of foaming and cleansing systems. Several PEGs have been linked to skin irritations. At KORRES, we try to avoid PEGs whenever possible when we formulate new products.

Formula facts
Sincere and transparent communication with those selecting our products, is of extreme significance to us. The practice of ‘greenwashing’ has been extensively and growingly employed in cosmetics. Many brands make all-natural claims despite only using an extremely low percentage of natural ingredients and/or stress that they avoid specific substances when instead they are using several others that can be even more harmful. The level of misunderstanding and the overload of information surrounding natural ingredient based cosmetics, combined with difficult to understand ingredient lists as those featured on standard packaging, make it even harder for consumers to choose the right product for them. Bearing this in mind, we use the Formula Facts table on our packaging to fully describe the percentage of natural content as well as the formula synthesis, in a way that everybody can comprehend.

How we produce

Quality is our number one priority. Developing, producing, packaging in a way that goes beyond basic compliance standards, drives every decision we make. Despite being a cosmetics brand, we have developed production systems suitable for pharmaceutical products; our skincare formulations are produced based on extremely strict standards, often stricter than the ones followed for pharmaceuticals. A principle that applies to material handling including movement, storage, control and protection of raw materials and final products throughout the process of producing and distributing.
Our Green-certificate, NO WASTE plant has also been certified for Quality Management (ISO 9001)

Taking a closer look

Water is the one of the most significant ingredients in the majority of cosmetic formulations; the use of bacteriologically pure water in developing cosmetics simply cannot be undermined. It is of great significance yet a priority that can be easily misplaced, mainly due to cost-saving reasons. There are various types of water needs in our daily care but the type used as a cosmetic component is the most demanding on purity levels. An ultra-high purity level water is the basis for a safe formulation with the least amount of preservatives possible, what in other could be described as a ‘safe product from day one.

The cosmetics industry recommends the use of water with conductivity of up to 4,3 µS/cm (micro Siemens per cm); at Korres we use water with conductivity of 0,8 µS/cm – over 5 times more pure than what is actually required. Driven by our obsession with quality, we have created a water-purification plant within our production plant aiming to produce the highest quality water for our formulations. The water purification technology we use is Double Reverse Osmosis combined with UV (Ultraviolet) sterilizing, similar to the one found at kidney transplant hospital units. This water-purification plant is inspected daily both electronically and manually; there are over 10 check points to ensure that all standards are met. Local and international inspecting authorities have hailed the unit a an “exemplary” case study.


One of our core principles– still the same as in the early pharmacy days – was to develop products that are friendly to the skin but also to the environment. Today this core principle translates into an ongoing multi-faceted effort to protect the environment and support the community; we strive to do the right thing, and this is what leads every decision we make…from the ingredients we select, the way we select them and how we package our products to our NO WASTE operation and the use of renewable energy.

By protecting Greece’s 1,200 indigenous flora, we are protecting the World’s flora.
All our formulations are developed based on natural or certified organic ingredients. Our plant hunters select the ideal cultivation region for each herb based on climate and soil criteria while at the same time working towards protecting endangered herbs and sustaining plant populations.
We avoid the use of harsh chemicals and substances that can be harmful to our skin and environment. We avoid the use of non-biodegradable ingredients. We use the Formula Facts table on our packaging to fully describe the percentage of natural content and the formula structure in a way that everyone can comprehend.

Working on a credible, simple set of criteria that represent real, quantifiable emission reductions. Our GREEN GUARANTEE certified plant – including production, packaging and storage – operates entirely on hydroelectric power.
98% of our global markets are air-shipment free as part of our ongoing effort to limit air transfers.
99% of our packaging is recyclable, and when possible recycled. For our packaging we use the most environmentally sound materials, while each product is designed so that its individual parts can be easilly separated and recycled. Unnecessary packaging is eliminated. Our entire HAIR & BODY portfolio is box-free. Packaging facts are featured on the Formula Facts table of each product.
Thorough recycling policy for printing, plastic, paper, glass, electric, electronic, retail and merchandise units. We promote the idea of recycling through mini-recycling units within all our stores. Educational seminars for KORRES team members are ongoing.

We have created an exemplary, environmentally-friendly, first-for Greece plant extraction unit. It allows us to fully process our selected ingredients in a way that out of each single herb, we end up with up to 11 derivatives that can be used in our formulations. The residue is turned into organic soil and sent back to our network of organic farmers. A literally no-waste operation. We have made the decision to use natural instead of chemical solvents despite the higher cost, to avoid burdening the environment.

We collaborate with micro farmers, agricultural unions, educational and social institutions including rehabilitation and prison farms. We teach our partners organic farming and sustainable agricultural systems. We help them throughout all stages of cultivation and harvesting and support them financially through purchasing their produce.
The choice not to cultivate ourselves the herbs that we need is a conscious one. Our aim is not to compete, but to support the farmers and their unions, as well as the community bodies.
This continuous effort is part of our focus on ethical co-operations that also include a network of suppliers consisting of people with special needs. This network which caters for a percentage of our promotional materials including printing and sewing productions.

Friends of Oak & Nature is a union with a mission to protect the biggest Oak forest in Southeast Europe.
Located in Northwestern Greece, the 130,000 sq m forest is host to
• 256 endemic plants
• 126 bird species, 26 out of which are threatened with extinction
• thousands of great-age Oak trees
The forest is mainly threatened by illegal wood-cutting and arson. KORRES contributes towards the replacement of illegally cut trees with an annual fun while cooperating with the local authorities on an effective protection plan
